Here you will find the cozy, rustic mountain huts of Schwangau’s surroundings. Look forward to a hearty snack or a fresh buttermilk after the climb. In the vicinity of our resort numerous hiking destinations are waiting to be discovered.
Hikes & excursion destinations
In front of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castle lies the lake Alpsee in the middle of a dreamlike scenery! From the parking spaces in Hohenschwangau you can get directly to the shore and start from there the tour through the forest path lined with mixed forest.
This tour takes about 1.5 hours.

The Kenzenhütte is located at a height of 1300m in the nature reserve Kenzen. The starting point of the hike can be the Kenzenhütte parking lot in Halblech – there you can easily take the bus up and enjoy the magnificent mountain scenery and start various hiking tours. Take your time to enjoy a snack or a Kaiserschmarrn (a sliced pancake) at the Kenzenhütte!
The waterfall “Lechfall” near Füssen opens up a natural monument and geotope that is unique in the Bavarian Alpine region. Impressively, the water masses of the Lech, fed from the Alps, plunge twelve meters into the depths over five steps. Below the waterfall, the course of the river narrows and enters the Lech Gorge, which the Lech has carved out of the rock over thousands of years.
Beautifully located on a panoramic plateau at 1,140 m above sea level, the Buchenbergalm offers a magnificent view of the surrounding castles, mountains and lakes (13-lake view). According to the philosophy of the landlord, all food and pastry products come from their own production. Your walk to the Buchenbergalm is best started from the parking lot of the mountain railway Buchenbergbahn, directly on the way to the top.

The mountain Tegelberg is a popular destination for numerous hikers, paragliders… and to simply enjoy the view! The top can be reached on several ways and offers just the right thing for everyone. Let yourself be gondolaed comfortably up into the heights and enjoy the mountain view already during the ride. Or you can hike up to the top of the Tegelberg and pass numerous cozy and rustic huts on the way, such as the Rohrkopfhütte with its panoramic terrace.
You will reach the Drehhütte after a 1.5 hour climb on a wide forest path and overcoming 400 meters of altitude. Afterwards you will certainly have an appetite for South Tyrolean and Allgäu specialties, which the Drehhütte landlord serves up. Schlutzkrapfen (filled pasta), Kaspressknödel (dumpling made of pressed cheese) with warm cabbage salad, bacon dumplings and spinach, cheese and beetroot dumplings provide the unmistakable South Tyrolean touch.
The Ostler hut at the summit of the Breitenberg impresses at 1,838m above sea level with a unique 360° alpine panorama into the Allgäu and Tyrolean mountains. But not only because of the view, but also because of the excellent Allgäu cuisine, the hut is a popular hiking destination. The hiking time from the parking lot in Pfronten-Steinach is about 3 hours.
