A holiday in the Allgäu means experiencing something new every day.
The Allgäu is well worth a visit, in summer and in winter! The wonderful landscape of mountains and lakes has formed the land and its people.
The village of Schwangau
The village of Schwangau is known as the village of the royal castles. Here, King Ludwig II of Bavaria realised his royal dream with the castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.
The landscape of the lakes
In both winter and summer, the four lakes - Forggensee, Alpsee, Bannwaldsee and Schwansee - all have their charms.
The town of Füssen
Only 5 km away from Schwangau, the small medieval town of Füssen is enchanting. The Baroque monastery, the city walls and the defensive towers plus the Italianate style of the old town's narrow streets make it well worth a visit.
The Romantic Road
Schwangau lies on what is probably one of the most impressive holiday routes in Germany. The most famous places on the Romantic Road are Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Würzburg, Füssen, Augsburg (the city of silver and the Fugger merchant family) and the small town of Dinkelsbühl.
Mountains with wonderful panoramic views
The Säuling is the most beautiful and distinctive mountain rising above Schwangau. After a trip by cable car, the Tegelberg provides a breath-taking view of the lovely Alpine foothills and the southern peaks of the Alps. The Breitenberg is a popular mountain; here too the mountain railway takes most of the strain off the climb. A comfortable path leads to the mountain cabins an refreshment options.
